clay + cook (not): glazing and leftovers

Yesterday’s clay club was just me. While Zan prepped for the first day of school, I emptied the kiln and arranged the pots on the shelves. And then I thought I’d use the classroom frypan containing wax to dip the bottom of the pots. I dipped too long and the bottoms were too thick with wax. Sigh. Just paint wax resist on the bottoms next time. And so I used a combination of dipping wax and tape on the larger planter and the butter dish.
In keeping with my resolve to take my time with glazing, I glazed only two small Obsidian bowls, the large Speckled Buff planter Cecilia commissioned me to make for her niece, and my new large Speckled Buff butter dish. I cleaned the glazed pots as best I could and tried to touch up spots where the glaze crawled off the clay. I also painted with a very small brush wax resist into the texts of my bisque cocktail cups. Okay so up for clay club this Thursday (lest I forget): glaze the one plate that survived the bisque firing (sigh...need to make their slabs thicker and use a skinny coil for that minimalist rim); remove the plaster plate molds from the slump trays and mix up another batch of plaster for more plate hump molds to hopefully remove on Friday; move the bisque pots to my cupboard in the library, which means I may have to glaze the cocktail cups because there probably won't be enough room or may have to designate another cupboard for ceramics.

I was kind of fatigued from a day of hauling books for a first week of checking them out to students at school, but I managed to swim my 30 laps and then hit Trader Joe's for red cabbage and carrots (to toss into salads for lunch) and bananas (for breakfast and to prevent foot cramps while exercising). I also impulsively hit the Barnes and Noble to browse. They had a lot of different tarot decks, but none were compelling me to own any of them. And I took pictures of books I will look for at the public library.
I would also like to browse a metaphysical supply store to find a crystal to adhere to my cone 10 pot and look at more tarot decks. But this weekend will be devoted to cooking because I don't anymore weeknights when it's the school year.
